NASHVILLE, Tenn. (4 November 2015) – In October, the Nashville Scene unrolled the red carpet on their Best of Nashville 2015 list, naming rising country band, Friends of Lola, one of the Top Three Best Local Bands, according to a Readers’ Poll. The group, which brings a touch of old-school soul and 70s rock to the ‘new country’ sound, is the only Best Local Band winner in the country music genre. On Friday, Nov. 6 at 9 p.m., see them perform live at The Basement East. Tickets are $7 in advance and $10 day of show.
The Nashville Scene’s “Best Of” accolade follows the placement of their single, “Kissed Me Like Thunder” in the 2015 film “A Walk In The Woods,” starring Academy Award winners Robert Redford and Emma Thompson. Originating on their 2013 self-produced EP Letters From Tennessee, “Kissed Me Like Thunder” has been re-released and is now available in single format as well as on the film’s official soundtrack. It emanates influences from The Eagles to Bonnie Raitt to Stevie Wonder to Hank Williams. The newly-finished project was produced by Marshall Altman (Eric Paslay, Frankie Ballard, Matt Nathanson) and will be released in 2016.
“We try to write good songs that make people feel something,” said the band’s Cyrena Wages.
The brother-and-sister duo of Houston and Cyrena Wages from Memphis, Tennessee is made complete with Gabe Rabben of Laguna Beach, California, who has toured with Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member Bill Medley of The Righteous Brothers.
American Songwriter magazine has also hailed the band saying, “Friends of Lola are a young Nashville 3-piece with a lot of potential. With sweet harmonies, great lyrics and a very spur-of-the-moment vibe, we get the sense we’ll be hearing a lot more in the future.”
