Damon’s success with Brother Cane led to songwriting collaborations and singles released with Sammy Hagar, Stevie Nicks, and Carlos Santana.
Next for Johnson was a touring position in 2001 with former Baby’s and Bad English front man, John Waite. In 2004 a call came from legendary shock rock pioneer, Alice Cooper, and Damon toured and wrote and recorded with Cooper over the next 5 years. 2011 found Johnson being asked to lend his talents in a much coveted lead guitar spot next to Scott Gorham in Thin Lizzy (one of Damon’s greatest musical influences). He would spend 7 years touring with Thin Lizzy, who would also record and release new music under the name Black Star Riders.
In 2019, ready to record new solo music, Johnson released the album “Memoirs Of An Uprising”. This was followed by “Battle Lessons”, the debut release of his power trio, Damon Johnson & The Get Ready. In the summer of 2021 Johnson received a call from his longtime friend, Rickey Medlock, asking if he could fill in for ailing Lynyrd Skynyrd guitar legend, Gary Rossington. As Skynyrd has been one of the other great musical influences in Damon’s life, he paused his other projects to help out his friend and hero. Since Rossington’s passing in 2023, Johnson performs in Skynyrd full time as well as the reunited Brother Cane. He also enjoys the intimacy of performing acoustic sets of his musical catalogue, as well as inspiring younger artists via sponsored guitar clinics.
